This horror flick was a box-office phenomenon in Korea , and a hit at Cannes , but it looks set to gain a much larger audience as a permanent addition to the cult canon. It is the rarest of monster flicks, in that it has all the thrills and scares of a commercial film but also manages to subtly incorporate insightful socio-political analysis.
The Host is an incredible monster so ugly it's beautiful. Balletic and terrifying, it sets about a murderous course in Seoul . When the monster captures the daughter of vendor Gang-du, he and the rest of his dysfunctional family embark on a thrilling rescue mission.
Funny, moving, scary and intelligent, The Host is a monster movie classic.
