Blending animation with live action, this is the story of a clergyman named August who loses his beloved sister Christine, a former porn star known as the Princess, to a drug overdose. He adopts her five-year-old daughter Mia. Weighed down by grief and guilt, August breaks down, and with Mia in tow, he embarks on a mission of vengeance to erase the pornographic legacy of the Princess. Gradually August's grief turns to bloodlust and his crusade assumes manically biblical dimensions.
Princess is an animated revenge tragedy that attacks the pornography industry with fierceness. Director Anders Morgenthaler, who is also the creator of children's books and television, clearly has short thrift with pornography and he has no problem pushing reactionary buttons involving sex, violence and religion.
Extremely violent, unremittingly bleak and altogether disturbing, this is nonetheless a remarkably impressive film that shifts the boundaries of cinema.
