One of this year's most eagerly anticipated films, and the winner of several Academy Awards, Pan's Labyrinth has been received with universal acclaim. Guillermo del Toro adds to his cult cannon of darkness (Chronos, The Devil's Backbone) with a film that straddles the fantastic and the tragic.
The year is 1944 and the Spanish Civil War has just come to an end. Carmen and her daughter Ofelia move into the house of her new husband, the sadistic, fascist Captain Vidal.
Finding her new life too painful to bear Ofelia finds escape in a mysterious labyrinth next to the sprawling family mansion. There she meets the mythical Pan who informs her that she is the long lost princess of a magical kingdom. But to discover the truth, Ofelia will have to complete three different tasks, tasks for which no human experience could prepare her. And so she becomes drawn into a magical world that runs parallel to an already dangerous and haunting reality.
Del Toro combines the fantasy of fairy tales with the real horror and excess of war to startling effect. Immiscible !

Winner of the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes festival, Apichatpong Weerasethakul’s new film has the magic of a fairy tale and the simplicity of a folk tale. Wonderfully immersive, slow and dreamy,
