Based on an idea by the Iranian master Abbas Kiarostami , Men at Work is a very funny investigation into the male ego. Four long-time friends, all well into middle age, are returning from a skiing trip when they encounter a massive, phallic rock blocking their path. In stereotypically male fashion, they decide that they must topple it over the cliff's edge.
After a while two women pass by, one of whom is married to one of them. She stays out of the argument while her best friend begins quarrelling with the guys about moving the rock.
What follows is an hilarious catalogue of failures as the men try a variety of ideas. As they do so – and as the traffic backs up behind them – they discuss sport, their lives and, of course, the women in their lives . This wry exploration of masculine determination is a playfully satiric comedy with universal appeal.
